National Honor Society

the National Honor Society to which I have been selected.

The Overview

Created in 2007, the PFTSTA Chapter of the National Honor Society is an organization established to honor students who excel in four categories: scholarship, where academics matter; leadership, where dedication perseveres ; service, where community is top priority; and character, where inner strength shines. In addition, National Honor Society is a student run organization, led by a president, a vice president, a secretary, and a historian. Service plays a major part within National Honor Society. the officers plan activities for which members can join and volunteer within the school or the community. One requirement for volunteering within the school is for members to tutor several times per semester during high school lunch.

Service

How to Join

To join, the student must be in grades 10-12 and have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 grading scale. Students are also evaluated in the areas of leadership, service, and character to further determine membership. Once the student passes stage one, he/she is asked to fill out an information form, specifying the student's leadership and services. After the student is selected, he/she is invited to an induction ceremony in early spring, where the student will be formally inducted into NHS.

Expectations of Members

All National Honor Society members are expected to maintain the standards in which they were selected by and fulfill the obligations required for a NHS member. Members are to complete fifty service hours per year. Ten of the service hours are required to be completed within the school and the other forty can be completed within the school or by other means. Documentation is required as proof of hours completed. In addition, members are required to meet on the first Wednesday of every month.
