The Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy band is an award winning program dedicated to musical excellence, esprit de corps, and individual character development.
The band motto is Finis Coronat Opus, which literally means 'the end crowns the work'. From sixth to twelfth grade, its members collaborate extensively in all of the performances.
Students will be able to demonstrate the positive links between musical education and high-stakes testing. These outcomes affirm the value of music programs, and the study of music is vital to students' developments.
The study of music shapes the way students understand themselves and the world around them. Additionally, music education nurtures character ethics vital for a student's success, including collaboration, creativity, curiosity, motivation, and self-discipline, and helps students develop higher-order thinking skills such as evaluation, synthesis, and analysis.
What We Do
The Band meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school for band practice in order to prepare for events.
The Tiger Band participates in a variety of activities around school, including many pep rallies and the winter and spring concerts held at the school campus every year. Additionally, the band also marches alongside Tulane each year during Band Day, as well as the Excalibur parade in Metairie.
Members of the Tiger Band may also opt to be a part of District VI Junior High and District VI High School Honors Band, and/or in the District Honors Jazz Ensemble.
Recently, the Tiger Band marched in the 2016 Krewe of Excalibur and achieved third place in the Battle of the Bands.
